The Reason: Ch 4

Ch4

Ron started laughing: Are you serious, me and her? (pointing to Leila).

Linda: Why not?

Ron: We’ve known each other since forever. I just see her like more of a sister than anything else.

Linda: Do you care about her?

Ron: Of course!

Linda: Maybe you do like her but you just don’t know.

Ron giving her a stern look: You know, for a new interim you sure have a lot to say especially when you hardly know me.

Linda blushed: I didn’t mean to…

Ron: I’m joking. (He smiled) Don’t worry about it. Okay, you stay here, I’m going to go and get her.

Linda: Sure… Do you want me to sit in the back or anything?

Ron: Just stay where you are. Leila wouldn’t mind.

Ron got out of the car and walked towards Leila.

Ron: Leila! Let’s go!

Leila: I can’t believe you drove right past me. What WERE you doing?

Ron: You and your dirty thoughts. (Shaking his head)

Leila: How do you know what I was thinking about if you didn’t think about it too? Now who has the dirty mind?

Ron: Can we just stop with the bickering and go?

Leila: I’ll stop if you say I was right.

Ron: Right about what?

Leila: You know.

Ron: How would I know what you’re thinking about?

Leila: urgh….can’t you just agree with me for once?

Ron: fine! You were right about whatever you were talking about. Happy?

Leila: So you WERE doing something.

Ron: This ends here. I don’t want Linda to be offended by your unusual thoughts.

Leila: ooo…. So there is something going on.

Ron: Come on Leila, if I did have a girlfriend or even liked someone you’d be the first to know. So can we please get a move on? You know those old people aren’t getting any younger.

Leila gave a little giggle: Ok.

They walked over to the car and Ron opened the door for Leila.

Leila: Thanks.

Ron: No problem. (He got onto the car) So is everyone ready? No answer! I take that as a yes…ok lets go.

Ron drove off to the public health center where most of the elderly were.

All three got out of the car.

Ron: oh ya. I forgot to introduce you to each other. (Scratching his head) Ok. Linda, this is Leila and Leila this is Linda. Now that you’re acquainted we can go inside.

They walked in and saw Raymond, Tavia and Michelle.

Raymond: Ron, you’re finally here. Was my sister giving you a hard time again?

Ron: What do you think?

Raymond: This is what happens when you’re a nice guy. (Started laughing).

Leila: I didn’t do anything.

Raymond: It’s you. Of course you did something, you always do.

Ron: Linda, are you planning to stand there for the rest of the day? Come on.

Ron walked over to her and pulled her towards where the group was standing.

Tavia: So the plan today is to explain to the people about hypertension (high blood pressure) and how to prevent it.

Ron: Ok. Let’s get started.

Ron walked onto the stage.

Ron: Good morning everyone.

Everybody: Good morning Doctor Ng.

Ron: So, how is everybody on this fine day?

Everybody: Good.

Ron: That’s fantastic! Ok, so did Tavia tell you about what we’re here to do?

Everybody: Yes.

Ron: Let’s get started. First of all do we know what high blood pressure is?

The crowd began to have their little personal discussion.

Ron: Well, don’t worry if you don’t know because that’s what we’re here to tell you about. Ok. So high blood pressure is caused by many things like emotional tensions, faulty nutrition and can even be hereditary. But you know since most of you are elderly you should watch out. High blood pressure can’t be seen so it’s hard to know that you have it. But don’t you worry my friend (pointing to Raymond) Doctor Lam will tell you the symptoms so you could tell.

Raymond: All right so like Doctor Ng said high blood pressure can’t be seen so how do you know if you have it? Hmmm…well, you might have a headache, your ears may turn red and you might even feel dizzy. So, to make sure that no one here has high blood pressure, we’re going to test everyone to see.

The two of them walked down.

Raymond: ok, let’s pair up. Michelle and I will be a group. Leila and Tavia you two are a group and Ron you and Linda can be a group.

Ron: Ok, let’s get to work.

Ron and Linda grabbed the needed instruments and walked over to a group of elderly who were sitting there patiently for the doctor to come.

Old man: Doctor Ng, I was here first so you have to give me the check up first.

Ron smiled: Sure Mr. Chan. Okay, Linda will wrap this band around your arm so, you have to roll up your sleeve so she can do her job easily.

Mr. Chan: Ok, I’ll listen to you Doctor. (He rolled up his sleeve and allowed Linda to wrap the band around his arm)

Ron: This might feel a bit strange but everything will be okay. (Ron pressed the button and let the machine do the work) Okay Mr. Chan you’re blood pressure is normal.

Mr. Chan: Ha, I told you Rose, I’m still as healthy and good-looking as when we first met.

Ron and Linda both chuckled as the old man walked away.

Linda: The people here are quite friendly.

Ron: They are very nice people.

Linda and Ron walked towards an old woman when Linda tripped over a man’s cane. Ron caught her before she fell over.

Ron: Are you ok?

Linda: I think I sprained my ankle.

Ron picked her up and carried her to a chair.

Ron: Let me see that? (He raised her foot and placed it on his lap.)

Ron went through the bag that he brought and found the roll of the elastic bandage. He then wrapped it around her ankle and foot several times so it would help.

Ron: Okay, you should sit still, don’t move. When it’s time to go I’ll come over and pick you up. Literally. (He smiled at her) Just sit still.

Linda: Ok Doctor. I’ll listen to you. (She smiled back)

Ron walked away and went to the other people. Mr. Chan and his wife came over.

Mr. Chan: Doctor, Is she your girlfriend?

Ron: No. Why would you say that?

An Overdue Explanation and Apology

Hi there,

It's been a while since my last 'actual' update and I think I should explain myself. As we all know, I'm in university and in my fourth year to be exact. I have lots of reading and projects to work on/handle. With that being said, I know it isn't exactly a sufficient reason for my absence/ lack of updates. The real reason is because I've slowly lost interest in TVB and dramas as a whole so sometimes, I just don't feel like it. With that being said, there are still moments when I have such great inspiration to write a new chapter for my fanfics or for a brand new fanfic which will be appearing soon on my other blog. When I say soon...I actually mean after A Truthful Lie has ended and Take 2 is also completed...or something along those lines.

On a personal note, a lot of things have been going on in my personal life that puts me in an almost depressing mood. Let's just say that it's been hard for me to face the fact that I have to watch those around me deteriorate health wise, and slowly leave me...and i might sound childish and selfish, but I really hope my grandparents can stick around long enough to watch me graduate and actually grow up...I've already lost my maternal grandmother at 14, I don't want to have to witness that again until I've fully grown up...but life sucks and...well...it's been hard. Even though they're around today, but I'm just always scared that one day they'll leave and,I won't be able to see them ever again...

Sorry for my little personal rant thing there...I just really needed to spill it out...

Thanks for reading,

The Reason:Ch 3

Ch 3

That night Leila couldn’t really sleep. She was twisting and turning around and just couldn’t fall asleep. But once she started sleeping old memories came into her dreams.

~Flashback/dream~

Kevin took the ball away from Leila and she started crying.

Leila: I want my ball back. I want it back NOW!!!

Kevin: Too bad I got it now. Raymond, Bosco, Ron come play with me. I got the ball

Leila: Can I play with you guys then?

Kevin, Raymond and Bosco: NO!!!

Ron walked over and saw Leila crying.

Ron: Lee-lah, why are you cwying?

Leila: Kevin took my ball and he wouldn’t let me play. (She continued to cry)

Ron put his arms around her: Don’t cwy Lee-lah, I’ll play with you. I won’t leave you here. (He patted her on the back)

She still continued to cry.

Ron gave her a kiss.

Ron: My mommy always gives me a kiss when I cwy. Maybe it would make you feel betteh?

Leila stopped crying and looked up at him and smiled.

The crying Leila cried no more because Ron was there to cheer her up.

~End of flashback but the dreamed continued~

Leila was standing around waiting for Ron to drive her to work because all of her brothers weren’t there. She looked at her watch and it was already 8:30.

Leila: He should be here by now.

She then sees Ron driving by with someone in the car. He totally ignored her and drove off. She called out his name but he didn’t seem to hear her. She called his cell but he didn’t answer. She started running after his car but the faster she ran the further it was. She didn’t know what to do. She continued screaming his name.

Leila: Ron!

~End of dream~

She suddenly woke up and all three of her brothers rushed in.

Kevin: Leila, you all right?

Leila: I’m fine…(her breathing was quite heavy)

Raymond: You look really pale. Maybe you should go for a check up.

Bosco: Is it just me or were you screaming out Ron’s name? (Scratching his head)

Raymond: I think I heard it too.

Leila: I think you two are the ones who need the check up. Go back to bed.

Kevin: Are you sure you’re okay?

Leila: I’m fine Kev. You don’t have to watch over me like when I was little.

Kevin: Hey, I’m your big brother, that’s my job. (He smiled at her)

Leila: Well, I’m fine.

The three of them went out her room and turned off the lights. It was only four in the morning and she couldn’t go back to sleep. She wanted to know what that dream was all about? Was she afraid that if Ron really did a girlfriend he would leave her?

Leila talking to herself: What’s happening to me? Am I jealous? But that can’t be. I always looked at Ron as one of my brothers. How can I even think about having feelings for him? But what if I do like him? Does he like me? Or does he like that girl…Linda something, whatever her name is. Maybe I should just go back to sleep.

She lied down and struggled to close her eyes. Eventually she fell asleep and this time she didn’t have any dreams that would interrupt her sleep.

She woke up the next morning looking very tired.

Bosco: Hey, I made breakfast. It’s on the table and now I got to go. My client is going to court today. You better eat up or else. (Making a fist).

Leila: Don’t worry. Where’s Ray?

Bosco: I think he left a while ago. Why? Do you need a ride?

Leila: No it’s okay. Ron said he’d pick me up.

Bosco: I know I shouldn’t question you about your own personal life and all but if you like Ron, just tell him. You’ve known him for so long. We all know him and we wouldn’t mind if you two were to go out.

Leila: I don’t like him.

Bosco smiled: You’re my little sister and as your brother I can tell. (He winked at her.)

Leila: How about you? I know you like Myolie.

Bosco: It’s true I do. I even asked her out. Actually we have a date tonight. So you can’t say anything about that can you?

Leila: I guess not.

Bosco: Well I got to go. I’ll see you tonight…maybe.

Leila: Bye. Hey, Myolie likes white roses.

Bosco: Gotcha. Thanks.

Leila went downstairs and waited for Ron to come and pick her up. She spotted Ron’s car from far away and saw someone in the car with him just like in her dream. Was he really going to just drive off without her because he has someone now?

Leila mumbling to herself: He won’t leave me. He’s Ron not Raymond my good for nothing brother. He’s probably picking up Michelle and forgetting all about his little sister.

Ron’s car went right past her.

Leila’s thoughts: Oh no, It’s just like the dream. He has forgotten about me.

~In Ron’s car~

Linda: You’re picking someone else up too right?

Ron: Ya, how do you know?

Linda: I think you kind of passed her.

Ron looked back and saw Leila.

Ron: Thanks; I bet she’s going to yell at me now.

Linda: Is she your girlfriend?

The Reason: Ch 2

Ch 2

It was one very hectic and busy morning in the ER. Many people were rushed in continuously; they never even had time for a little break. As for Ron who has worked for 34 hours straight with less than an hour of sleep, he was still very energized.

~At the cafeteria~

Raymond: Ron, aren’t you tired? You’ve worked for almost 35 hours straight.

Ron: I feel fine. Just a bit tired. I remember when we first started I went 50 hours straight with like 8 hours of sleep The good old days.

Raymond: So who was that new doctor you were with earlier and where is she?

Ron: Are you interested?

Raymond: No dude, I’m taken. If my girlfriend heard that she would be pulling on my ear right now.

Ron: Well, she’s a new interim. Nice girl and full of that passion.

Raymond: It sounds more like you’re into her.

Ron: Maybe…

Linda walked over to Ron.

Linda: Doctor Ng may I take this seat?

Ron: Linda, just call me Ron. After you finish eating I’ll take you on a tour of the hospital.

Linda: ok.

Ron: Oh ya, I forgot to introduce you to one of the doctors here. This is Raymond Lam he specializes in cardiology.

Linda: Hi.

Raymond: Why did you pick to go into the ER?

Linda: I actually love the thrill of it. And besides you get to meet so many people out there.

Raymond: She’s just like you Ron.

Ron: Are you done?

Raymond: Let the girl eat man.

Linda: That’s okay. I know the ER is really busy so we better get going.

Raymond: Exactly like you.

Ron: See ya man.

Ron and Linda left and started touring the hospital. Ron introduced her to many of her future colleagues. The two of them seem to be getting along quite well. After their tour, they went back down to the ER where the action was. They stayed there until five.

Ron: 40 hours

Linda: what?

Ron: I worked for 40 hours.

Linda: Wow, you still look like you could go for another day.

Ron started laughing: I could if I get some good sleep. So anyways, you’ll be following my work schedule. That would mean you would get a day off tomorrow.

Linda: What do YOU do on your day offs?

Ron: Depends. Why? Are you interested in joining me?

Linda slightly blushed: I just wanted to know.

Ron smiled: I’ll probably be heading to one of those public health centers helping out.

Linda: Can I come?

Ron: If you like. I could pick you up if that’s okay with you?

Linda: Thanks.

As Ron was driving home from the hospital he caught sight of Linda catching a bus. He honked the horn, which gave her quite a shock.

Ron: Hey, how bout I give you a lift?

Linda: You don’t have to. I think the bus is coming.

Ron shaking his head: The bus never comes at this time. Just get on. I’ll drive you home.

Linda looking around to see if a bus was coming: Ok, thanks.

Linda got into Ron’s car and Ron drove off, he knew where she lived because he actually went through her profile thoroughly to see if she would be able to handle the work.

Ron stopped the car right in front of Linda’s apartment.

Linda: Thank you.

Ron: I’ll see you tomorrow at 10:30. Ok?

Linda: umm… sure. Thanks.

Ron: No problem.

As Linda walked in she turned around and said: Thank you.

Ron: Is that all you know how to say?

Linda smiled and walked in.

Ron drove home. All he wanted to do right about now was lie on his bed and sleep.

Once he got home he jumped right into bed. He didn’t care about anything right about now. He needed his sleep and that was that. The phone started ringing but he ignored it and continued sleeping. A couple of hours later he woke up and noticed someone had left a message.

Answering machine: You have…ONE…message.

Ron began listening to the message.

Leila: Hey Ron, I know you’re tired and everything and probably you’re sleeping. Sorry for bothering you. I just wanted to make sure that we were going to the Public Health Center tomorrow? Call me back when you’re awake. Bye.

When the message was over he quickly called Leila and confirmed their visit.

Ron: Hey Leila, Raymond is coming too right?

Leila: Ya and Tavia.

Ron: Is he going to drive you there?

Leila: I don’t know. But I was hoping you could drive me because you know how Raymond is. I could never trust him.

Ron laughed: All right, I’ll see you at 11 then.

Leila: Usually you pick me up at 10:30.

Ron: Well, I promised to pick Linda up as well.

Leila: Oh.

Ron: Hey, don’t start thinking about stuff. She’s just a new interim at the hospital and she was interested in volunteering.

Leila: Ya right.

Ron: Well I need to go back to sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye.

The Reason: Ch 1

Ch 1

~At the hospital~

Raymond: Buddy, how was the night shift?

Ron: It was really tiring. At like 3 a.m. a family was rushed in with food poisoning.

Raymond: That’s what happens when you work in ER.

Ron: But working in the ER is the best part of the hospital, you get to see so much action and help so many people.

Raymond: You weren’t supposed to be working the night shift.

Ron: Well, Myolie was begging me to switch so I did.

Raymond started laughing: Now you’re all tired. That’s what you get for being a nice guy.

Ron: She said it was her dad’s birthday.

Raymond: She told ME that a week ago.

Raymond started laughing even louder.

Ron: O well. That’s okay.

Raymond: here comes my little sister now another very naïve soul. I swear you two would make a very cute couple. (He continued to laugh)

Leila walking over to where Raymond and Ron were sitting.

Leila: Raymond, did you leave early this morning?

Raymond: maybe…

Leila: Well no wonder, I thought you would give me a ride so I waited and then Bosco told me you already left. So he gave me a ride instead. What type of brother are you?

Raymond: A very good looking one.

Leila: humph…

Raymond: Don’t be mad. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll help you study for your written exam. Okay?

Leila: You better. (Making a fist)

Raymond: Hey, people are looking.

Leila: There’s no one else here but Ron and he’s like family. Right Ron?

Ron: Obviously and if Raymond “forgets” to help you then I will.

Leila: (She gives Ron a hug) You’re always there for me when my so-called good-looking brother isn’t.

Raymond: Ron is just being nice but once he finds himself a girlfriend you can forget about him too.

Ron: What if I already have a girlfriend?

Raymond: Ya right. If you did, you wouldn’t take that night shift.

Leila: You worked last night?

Ron: I switched with Myolie.

Leila: No wonder you look so tired. For helping me out so many times, how about I give a massage?

Raymond: How come you wouldn’t give me a massage?

Leila: Cause you NEVER help me even though I AM your sister.

Raymond: Fine be like that.

Leila walked over to Ron and gave him a massage.

~A couple of minutes later ~

Leila: How does it feel?

Raymond: Shhhhhh…(started whispering) he’s sleeping.

Leila whispering: already?

Raymond: He worked 30 hours straight, what do you think?

Leila: Well we need to get going.

Raymond: I guess we could leave him there. No one would eat him or something.

Leila: okay then.

~Half an hour later~

Ron felt the vibration of his beeper and woke up.

He read the message and ran to his office. There sitting patiently was a new interim waiting for Doctor Ng who would be her mentor for the rest of the year.

Ron walked in.

Ron: I’m sorry I’m late. I kind of fell asleep. You see working in the ER means working 30 hours shift and stuff.

The girl just sat there and nodded.

Ron: Okay, I’m Doctor Ng or you can just call me Ron. Whatever you want. And you are…(opens the folder) Linda Chung. You just transferred here today?

Linda: Yes sir.

Ron started laughing: Don’t call me sir; I’m only a few years older than you.

Linda gave a little chuckle: Okay then.

Ron: So do you want to start today or tomorrow?

Linda: Today would be nice.

Ron: Cool. So lets start. We’ll go down to the ER and I’ll introduce you to the people there and then at lunch I’ll show you around.

Linda: Thanks.

Ron: Lets get going.

Ron and Linda went down to the ER. Right at that moment two police officers were rushed in.

Ron: What happened?

Myolie: They were on duty and it was an outbreak of two gangs. They got caught in the middle.

Ron: Sir, do you know where you are?

Police officer 1: I’m in the hospital?

Ron: Yes you are and you’ll be all right. Myolie, you and Kenneth take care of him. I got to go and check out the other officer.

Myolie: Sure Ron.

Ron went over to the other room.

Ron: Sir, are you okay?

There was no response.

Ron: Sir… Tavia, check his pulse and his blood pressure.

Tavia: It’s dropping to a halt.

Ron: Turn on the defibrillator. Ready? 20V CLEAR!

Tavia: No response.

Ron: Turn it up. Ready? CLEAR!

Tavia: His pulse is back.

Ron: Good, now give him some anesthetics and take out the bullet from his left arm.

Sammul: Okay Ron, I’ll do that.

Ron: Linda, you see working in the ER isn’t so glamorous. It’s actually a lot harder and busier than the other sections of the hospital.

Linda: But that’s what makes it so thrilling.

Ron: I see you enjoy working under pressure as well.

Linda smiled at him.

From a far Leila could see that Ron was having a nice conversation with this pretty and young girl. She wondered if it was his girlfriend. And if he did have a girlfriend how come she never knew about it.

Leila mumbling to herself: I thought he would tell me everything.

The Reason: Foreword

Since you asked for it...here it is!!! (sorry for the delay though)

=======

Foreword

There has never been a bad day, not a single one. I remember after the rain came the rainbow. I always wanted to find a treasure at the end of the rainbow, something that I could call my own. Growing up in a big family, it’s hard to find something that just belongs to you. My brother told me that I could have whatever he has but in the end that could never happen. So, I dream of finding my treasure at the end of the rainbow. The teachers use to tell me that there is no end to a rainbow, but that never discouraged me to finding my treasure. No, it made me feel like I just had more of a reason to find it.

Sometimes what you dreamt of as a kid isn’t always what you do when you’re older. For me, I forgot about searching for my treasure and instead became a useful person. Working at a hospital isn’t so bad. No, I’m not a doctor, well not really. One day I’ll become one and maybe I’ll help other kids find their treasure at the end of their rainbow.

Leila was an optimistic girl, she didn’t ask much from the world and she loved everyday. Her brothers have always protected her so she never felt left out but the fact is she wanted to try things for herself. She wanted to live like everyone else and most importantly love. What’s there to life without a bit of sadness and happiness? You have to see and feel it all to say you’ve lived. That’s exactly what Leila thought.

Leila’s point of view:

I have three older brothers: Kevin, Raymond and Bosco. They are the nicest guys you would ever meet. My oldest brother Kevin is a CEO for one of the largest company, I’m really proud of him. My second brother, Raymond isn’t too bad himself, he is actually a doctor, which is exactly what I will to be in a year. Last but not least is Bosco; this brother of mine is just great. He cooks for us everyday after he comes home from work. I forgot to mention he’s a lawyer and a very good one. He would never accept a case if he knows that the client isn’t a good person. I really respect him for that. My parents passed away when I was 17 and since then my brothers were the ones who took care of me. The other person who is also like family is Ron.

Ron has been through a lot in his life. He saw his parents die in front of him. He saw his girlfriend leave with another guy. He’s been through just too much that he no longer trusts anyone. He built a wall around his heart, a wall that cannot be destroyed by anyone. His life lacks hope but full of experience and mishaps. He works with my brother in the hospital. The two of them have been friends ever since preschool or that’s what I’ve been told. I remember Ron and how he would come over to our house almost every day after school. My parents use to love Ron. He was “perfect” in their eyes. I liked Ron too he was like a brother. I remember in high school I was really nerdy and everyone would laugh at me especially when I didn’t have a date for things like school dances and even my prom. Ron was always the jock type in school; all the girls in school liked him. After seeing how they would make fun of me, he would ask me out making all the other girls jealous.

Alright...that's it for now...I think I'll update once every other day or something...depending on how busy my schedule is. This summer has been quite hectic...and...I think I should post up something to explain myself for the lack of updates and the delay and all of that

Again, I'm sorry for the delay. Please leave me a comment or two...and I'll be back soon.
