The Christmas Gift: Ch 3

Ron smiled: Of course I’d accept the invitation...

Leila: If that’s the case, I’ll mail off the invitation to you...

She stood up and reached out her hand, as Ron stood up to shake her hand in return

Leila: I look forward to seeing you again

Ron smiled: As do I

Leila: Well...I guess you can go now

Ron: Thanks...

As he walked out of the conference room he saw Linda walking towards him...he didn’t seem to know how to react other than continue walking...she smiled at him as we walked past her, and he smiled back to not make the situation look very awkward...

He walked towards the elevator, waved goodbye to Shirley and got inside.

Meanwhile, Linda had come up down to the 15th floor not to see Ron...but to see her old friend...

Linda: Leila!

Leila looked at her: Now you come and see me? I see how important I am in your eyes...

Linda giggled: It’s not like that...I’ve been busy...

Leila: Sure...

Leila walked into her office followed by Linda, who took a seat on the couch in Leila’s office.

Linda: So...how’s my good friend doing?

Leila: Well...if you noticed...I just hired that extremely good looking guy as one of our designers

A radiant smile appeared on Linda’s face when Leila had told her that she had just hired Ron...she knew that he would’ve been very ecstatic...but wouldn’t display that on his face for the world to see...

Leila: You look even happier than he did

Linda: Do I?

Leila: Something tells me the two of you know each other...wait...he also studied in Italy...

Linda smiled: Oh?

Leila: Stop trying to hide it...(she gasped) Is he...your boyfriend?

Linda smiled: We used to date...when we were still in Italy...

Leila: What happened?

Linda: When we came back...he overheard me talking to some people...and...

Leila: Oh...I get it...he’s one of those guys who would choose his pride and dignity over his girlfriend...such a typical guy...

Linda: No, no...it’s not like that...we broke up because...he found out I was a rich girl...and he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to give me the life I’m used to...

Leila: But that’s stupid...

Linda: Well...it’s really my fault...for telling someone...how I wouldn’t be caught dead being with someone who can’t even afford a nice car...and other stuff like that...

Leila: Didn’t you try explaining it to him...

Linda: I did...I tried to apologize to him...but he ended up apologizing to me...for wasting my time...Leila...it wasn’t a very pleasant break up and then...the worst part was out of nowhere Bosco came along and embraced me from behind...I really hope Ron didn’t see that...

Leila laughed: So you still love him...but Bosco is a great guy...good looking...rich...

Linda: Naive...immature...insensible...

Leila: You’re only saying that cause you already found the guy that you truly love...

Linda: But now...we’re like strangers...

Leila: Well...I have some good news for you...

Linda: You do?

Leila: He’ll be coming to the Christmas ball...at first I was planning on luring him underneath the mistletoe...but now since I found out that he’s yours...you can do that instead

Linda laughed: That sounds like a good plan...but Bosco is going to be there...

Leila: Oh...well...he’s such a flirt...leave him to me

Leila smiled ecstatically and hugged her friend.

~December 23rd ~

They say the holiday season brings people together, it is the time of year where the ‘good’ in human kind comes to play...but the reality is...what good is there in human beings. All acts done by people are selfish...one must be motivated by something in order to do something. This is the drive to all acts, whether it is a criminal act or an act of good deed there is that particular drive. It could be simply for a compliment from a person or even for money, whatever the particular drive may be...it is there to satisfy one’s needs.

Ron stood outside of the five star hotel that the ball was being held at and looked around as the snow continued to fall. The lights were gleaming in the dark of night as couples began to walk into the hotel. He stood there and watched, this was not his world, or rather not the world that he was in...This was different...this was...her world. Deep down he wanted to be in this world with her, by her side...but he knew that for something like that to happen...it would take time...for before he could join her in her world...he had to make a name for himself in this type of world.

He slowly approached the entrance of the hotel, brought his coat to the coat check and walked into the hall that the Christmas ball was being held in...it was glamorous...

There were a few whispers from what looked like his future female colleagues when he walked in and felt someone tap his shoulder as he turned around.

Ron: Hi there...

Shirley: I was told you’d be here...and so...I think I’ll play my part and introduce you to the others in our department

Ron: Thanks...

He followed her over to a group of people who were standing around holding a glass of wine in their hands...

Shirley: This is Ron Ng...He’ll be joining our department beginning next year...

Ron reached out his hand to shake hands with his future colleagues...as he was doing so, Leila came walking towards the group.

Leila: Ah, so you’ve met...that’s good...Ron...can I have a word with you?

Ron: Sure thing

He followed Leila away as he heard a couple of whispers from the group that he left behind saying how Leila always takes the good stuff. He ended up walking out of the hall with Leila, and he realized that they were walking straight to where Linda was standing...

Leila: It’s not me who needs to have a word with you, but her (pointing to Linda)

Ron: What?

Linda approached them: Thanks Leila...I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have come out to meet me if you didn’t bring him here...

Leila smiled: I’m just doing a friend a favour

Leila walked away leaving the two of them standing there

Ron: I really have nothing to say to you...

Linda: Then listen...

They walked over to the coat check, grabbed their coats and walked outside.

Linda: Ron...I love you...and I don’t care if you don’t have a lot of money...drive expensive cars or anything...I don’t care...

Ron looked at her; she looked dazzling under the moonlight, with the snow falling around them

Ron: But I care, I don’t want you to have to give up anything for me...love isn’t able to make you full, it can’t buy you a life of luxury...

Linda: But I don’t need a life of luxury if I have you...beside me...

Ron: But I can’t let someone I love do something like that for me...

Linda: Ron...

Ron: it won’t work out...the world isn’t so perfect...I’m not your match...and so...I’d rather let you go now...than have you suffer in the future...

Linda: How do you know that I’ll suffer? Why do you treat me like I’m such a materialistic person? I know you still love me...you’re wearing the tie I gave you...can’t you just give it a try...give us a try...again?

Ron didn’t know what to say and turned away from her...as he did so he felt her arms wrap around him from behind...he placed his hands on hers...

Ron: I promise...we’ll be together...once I make a name for myself...when I know I can give you the life you should have...

Linda: The life I should have...is a life with you...don’t you get it? I can lose everything I have...and besides...I’m not going to be a housewife...I’m a designer too...we’ll work hard together...

He turned around to face her...her face had reddened, her eyes had become watery...and he embraced her...

Ron: Right now...I can’t really accept this...us...we’re two different people...

Linda: We’re two different people, who are completely in love with one another...

He looked at her, her tears started to fall...he carefully wiped them off her flawless cheeks, one by one and then gently kissed her on her forehead...

Ron: Just give me some time...ok? Please?

Linda: As long as we’re together...

Ron: Let’s...go inside...before you catch a cold...the clothes you’re wearing aren’t meant to keep you warm...

They walked towards one of the side doors to go back inside...

Linda: Ron...

Ron: what is it?

Linda smiled: We’re under the mistletoe...

Ron looked up: We are...I guess we should...

Before he could continue...he already felt her lips on his...as he gently wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her back underneath the mistletoe...

The Christmas Gift: Ch 2

Michelle: So what is my lovely son going to wear to his interview tomorrow?

Ron: I haven’t decided yet...but I will...

Michelle smiled: And I know you’ll make a very good decision...after all, you’re a wonderful designer

Ron smiled: Well...I’ll leave you alone to cook this sumptuous meal...while I go back to my room and look for the perfect outfit for tomorrow’s interview

With that he walked back into his room and opened up his closet, staring blankly at the many suits that he owns. Even though his family isn’t financially well off, Ron did make enough money for him to provide that image for himself, for he believed that people are truly shallow human beings. Humans continuously judge books by their covers even if, the saying goes that one should not judge a book by its cover.

He ran his finger through his collection of various suits and ties, and stopped when his finger touched a blue tie. The smile that was on his face when he came into the room had disappeared...this tie was a very special one...

~Flashback~

It was Christmas Eve and as a class of only about 35 students, they decided to throw a party and of course to uphold the seasonal spirit have a Secret Santa going on. But, instead of buying the person a gift, each student had to design something that they thought would suit the wearer. On the day of the party as the gifts were being opened Ron had found himself opening a very thin box and inside it was a tie.

At first glance it seemed to be quite a normal looking tie, probably one that he could buy at any store, but as he placed his hand on the material itself, he felt that the intricate design was woven into the fabric. He carefully looked at the tie once again under the light and to his amazement the design was clearly shown. He smiled happily at his gift from his Secret Santa as he watched the others open theirs.

As he continued to do so he felt someone tap his shoulder and immediately turned around. It was Linda.

Linda: You seem like you really like the gift

Ron: It’s very lovely...and I do wonder who was the genius behind such a wonderful design

Linda blushed slightly at his complement, which revealed to him that she was the one

Ron: Oh...so it was you...I’m pretty sure you spent quite a lot of time, designing and picking out the right fabric and all...thanks

Linda smiled: No problem...I’m glad you like it...

Ron: Of course I do...it was designed by such a wonderful designer...maybe one day, when you become famous...it’ll be one of those collectable items...

Linda: You think so?

Ron: If you always put so much thought into your piece of work...then why not?

She smiled at him and walked away...

~End of flashback~

This was the very first gift he had received from her, and to him it was ultimately the best gift that she had ever given him. He was not much of a materialistic guy, so he appreciated such things even more, even though he believes his appearance does matter. Sometimes he wondered what would happen if he had found out about her background before...would he have fallen so deeply in love with her. But the fact was that he was honest with her from the moment they started to go out...he told her that he came from a poor family, but he loved her and will do all that it takes for him to make a name for himself and provide her with the life she deserves. Whether or not she believed in his words at the moment was questionable...but he meant every word he said...and till this day, still would like to fulfill what he had set out to do.

After about an hour his father came home and Ron walked out of his room to greet him.

Ron: How was work dad?

Ron’s Dad (Michael): It was ok I guess...pretty busy, all these people trying to do some last minute Christmas shopping and all...

Ron smiled: So that’s good?

Michael: Of course it’s good...but it could’ve been better...(he leaned in closer to his son and whispered) I wasn’t able to give any pretty OLs any rides...it was all of those old housewives...

Michelle: What did you say honey?

Michael laughed: Oh nothing...well, I was telling our son here how my wife is the most beautiful house wife I’ve ever seen

Michelle walked out of the kitchen: Is that right?

Michael: Look at you...you barely look like you’re in your forties...and to think you’re in your fifties is outrageous!

Michelle smiled at her husband’s flattery: So this is where our son picks up his sweet talking technique

Ron: well...I guess I should say both good looks and charisma runs in the family

Michelle: Did you tell your dad about your interview tomorrow yet?

Michael: Interview? What interview?

Ron: With Dynasty Corp...at noon tomorrow

Michael: That’s fantastic...how about I give you a ride?

Michelle: That sounds like a great plan...

Ron smiled and nodded obediently to his parents’ idea

~Next day~

Ron wore a grey suit, light pink shirt and no tie. He wanted the interviewer to get the image that he was more of the casual person, and his designs are meant for both appeal in appearance as well as comfort. He walked out of his room with his portfolio in his hand and took the elevator down to the ground floor where he saw his dad standing there waiting anxiously.

Michael: It’s quarter past eleven already...we should get going

Ron: Sure...

His father led the way out to the parked taxi and he drove his son off to the interview. When they got there, as Ron was about to get off the taxi Michael turned around and looked at his son... as he took something out of his jacket pocket.

Michael smiled: Your mom told me to give you a red envelope for good luck

Ron: Thanks dad...

Michael: I think you’ll do fine...you look quite sharp today...well...you‘re always very sharp looking...since...you inherited such good looks from your father.

Ron chuckled: Of course...and I also inherited your charming personality

Michael laughed: That’s my boy...well...you better get going before you’re late

Ron: It’s only quarter to twelve...

Michael: So go...

Ron: Bye dad

Michael: Good luck!

With that Ron got out of the taxi and walked straight towards the 20 storey office building that was entirely owned by Dynasty Corp. His fear of meeting Linda had slowly diminished as he saw the vast number of people walking in and out of the building...

As he got inside, he ran towards the elevator that was about to close and walked in without looking at who was inside. From the reflection of the metal on the inside of the elevator he could see that Linda was there. Before losing his mind, he had pressed the number 15 to get to the 15th floor.

He turned around to look at her to only realize that they were the only two in there. There was a bright smile on her face seeing him...

Linda: Ron...

Ron: Hi...

Linda: You’re here for an interview?

Ron nodded without saying a word...for words couldn’t seem to escape his own mouth...

Linda smiled: I remember you telling me how you’ve always wanted to work here...and now your dream can become your reality

Ron turned around to actually face her: I hope this dream is fulfilled because I’m a capable young designer and not because my ex-girlfriend’s father owns this company

Linda: Don’t worry about that...I have nothing to do with this interview...and besides I’ve never actually told...

Ron snickered: Oh...I forgot...you wouldn’t have told your parents you were dating such a guy to begin with...that was...silly of me...

Before Linda could respond to his remark he had already arrived at the 15th floor and walked out. He approached the front desk where a pretty young lady was sitting at and smiled at her before telling her why he was actually there.

Lady: How may I help you?

Ron: I’m Ron Ng, here for an interview for a position as a designer

Lady: Oh...ok...well our manager will be with you in a bit...you just sit and wait...or you could stand here and have a chat with me

Ron smiled: I’d love to stand here and talk to such a lovely young lady like you

She slightly blushed and smiled: I’m Shirley by the way

Ron: I think it’s my lucky day...meeting such a beautiful young lady at this time of day

Before she could say anything the phone on her desk started ringing and she immediately picked up. Ron didn’t bother listening onto her conversation for he was just not that type...moments later as she hung up the phone she started to talk to him again...

Shirley: Our manager can see you now...let me walk you into our conference room

Ron: Thanks

He followed her to the conference room and took a seat around the large circular table as he sat there waiting, he placed his portfolio onto the table. The door of the conference room slowly opened as a young lady walked in, she looked as though she was younger than him, and he was amazed that she had already held such a position.

She took a seat directly across from him and a smile had appeared on her face. She extended her hand to greet him...

Lady: Hi, you must be Ron Ng...And I’m Leila Tong...manager of this department

Ron smiled: Nice to meet you

Leila: Your resume and letter of recommendation were quite impressive so I just had to meet you in person before deciding whether or not you should be hired at our company

Ron nodded

Leila: I can tell that you brought along your portfolio...may I take a look?

Ron: Of course

He handed her his portfolio of designs as she flipped through the pages one by one, trying to absorb his personal style and contemplating on whether or not he would be suited working at such a company

Leila smiled: I’m actually quite satisfied with your work...I could almost say...some of it looks much more decent than my own designs

Ron didn’t know what else to say but ‘Thank you’

Leila smiled: Not only do you seem to be quite the designer...but you’re also quite modest...unlike the others I interviewed before. Especially those who are men...I’m not trying to be judgemental or anything, but it seems as though men think that they are better than women at almost everything

Ron smiled: Well...I don’t think so...during my years in Italy, I’ve met far too many great designers and talents of all kind who are women to even try to fool myself that such a thing exists...

Leila nodded: We should all learn from experience...and I think I shouldn’t say that men think that they’re better than women at almost everything...since you’re an exception, and so what I said before must not apply

Ron: But men and women are different...aren’t we? And hopefully I’m not sounding too judgemental myself...but women generally don’t seem to understand how a man thinks...the way he acts, the things he say...women believe that men speak their mind...when the fact is...both men and women have things they’d prefer not to share with the other...oh...I think I’m saying a bit too much...

Leila laughed: It’s ok...I like those who share their opinions...and express themselves...it’s what we designers do, isn’t it? We express ourselves...we’re artists...just like painters and musicians...

Ron smiled: I’d like to think of it that way...

Leila smiled and looked at her diamond encrusted watch: I think the interview is over now...it was my pleasure to meet you in person...and it would be an even greater pleasure to have you work here with everyone...

Ron reached out his hand: Thank you...thank you so much for the opportunity...I won’t let you down Ms. Tong

Leila smiled: Formality is not necessary...we’re all equal here, if not in position, then in talent...so you can call me Leila...

Ron: Well then, thank you Leila...

Leila: when do you think you’ll be able to start?

Ron: Doesn’t that depend?

Leila smiled: I guess it does...the holiday break is coming up...our company will have a week off, and hold our annual Christmas ball...it would be nice if you could join us that day...if you don’t mind...it’s being held on the 23rd ....

The Christmas Gift: Ch 1

As he turned his back towards her and started walking away, he couldn’t help but shed a tear. He tried to rationalize the fact that he was not crying, but rather, it was his allergy reaction that was acting up again. He quickly wiped away the fallen tear and continued walking, with thoughts of her still lingering in his mind.

She stood there watching him walk away as tears one by one overwhelmed her and started to fall. She didn’t want it to end this way...it was not meant to end this way...they were supposed to be together, happily together but why...why has fate toyed with her and made him hear such cruel remarks. But then why, why was she not able to admit the fact that she, the daughter of the chairman of Dynasty Corp could be with such a guy. Why was she so fearful of how the world would look at her?

But the reality is that this is how society functions. The essence of society is reflected upon people, and how they see the world, and how they assume the world would see them.

The snow started to fall as she continued to stand there watching his figure become distant to her. She wanted to call him back, tell him how sorry she was, but knew that she had already apologized more than she had expected to do so, and yet he never accepted her apology. Was he being cruel or was he too hurt to accept her apology was the question that was running through her mind until she heard someone call her name.

Guy: Linda!

She turned around to see who it was, and before she could even do so, she felt someone’s arms wrapping around her waist.

Linda: What are you doing?

Guy: I missed you

Linda: Bosco, let go of me

Bosco: Oh come on...it’s not like we’re not close...

She finally broke free from his embrace and faced him

Linda: There’s nothing between us...don’t you understand?

Bosco: Nothing? Our fathers are business partners...we knew each other since we even knew how to speak...

Linda: We’re good childhood friends...

Bosco: We were predetermined to be together...

Linda looked at him and couldn’t believe what he had just said...such foolish and childish words coming out of a fully grown man who is helping his father run a multi-billion dollar corporation. He was not meant for her...he’s nothing compared to the more mature and sensible Ron that she was accustomed to being with...

Linda: Predetermined? Nothing in this world is predetermined

Bosco: But it’s what our families want...for us to be together...we’re meant to be...rich, powerful...

Linda: you really think that because we’re alike in such materialistic ways that we should be together?

Bosco looked at her: Why not? You wouldn’t choose some guy whose family can’t even afford to buy their own house over me are you?

Linda: I...

Bosco: Of course you wouldn’t. Someone of our calibre would be around with someone of the same calibre or of greater calibre and not the other way around...

The words that he was saying...they were her reality, weren’t they? Would she truly be able to live a life without all her luxurious clothing, shoes, a big home with servants at her heel cleaning up after her? She looked at Bosco...and tried to imagine her with him, maybe a future between them...but all she could see was not she but rather a life like her mother’s. One that only contained shopping, gossiping and the ongoing worry that her husband had cheated on her...and she knew at once that this was not the life she wanted.

Linda: Maybe I would...

Bosco: What?

Linda: Maybe...I’d be with someone who doesn’t believe in this nonsense you’re talking about...you know...there are people out there who are talented, more so than both you and I, but who come from not so splendid backgrounds...

Bosco laughed: you’re joking right. It sounds to me like you’re going to try and find true love? What is this? A fairytale? What guy would actually go out with you because of who you are and not because your father owns a multi-billionaire corporation? Think about it Linda...

Linda: I’m amazed we’re having this conversation in the middle of the street...and besides...

Bosco: whatever...I’ll call you later...when you wake up from your fantasy...

With that he too left her standing there...but this time she didn’t bother watch him walk away like she did with Ron...for she wasn’t yearning for him to be back by her side...

She truly missed him...just like how he misses her...

Her image continued to linger in his mind as he reached home. He took the elevator up to the apartment that his entire family was staying in and went inside. As he walked in he could smell the amazing aroma of the soup his mother was making, and as she heard him walk in she welcomed him with open arms...

Ron’s Mom (Michelle Yim): You’re home! How was your day? Oh, there’s a letter on the table for you...it’s from one of those companies you applied to...do you think they accepted you?

Ron chuckled at the sight of his overtly excited mother: I find you so adorable sometimes...

Michelle: Of course I’m adorable...or how else would I produce such a charming young man like you

Ron laughed: I think I smell something burning...

Michelle: What? I don’t smell anything...but I’ll go and check anyways...just in case...

With that she ran back into the kitchen as Ron took the opportunity to pick up the letter that was on the table and went to his room.

He sat down on his bed and carefully looked at the unopened envelope that he was holding...apparently the company that had sent him the letter was no other than Dynasty Corp. He slowly opened it and started reading...the letter suggested that the manager of their design department wanted an interview with him...

He refolded the letter and shoved it back into the envelope...Dynasty Corp...he should’ve realized what was going on. He remembered telling her when they were studying overseas where he wanted to work when he got back...and he remembered the excitement on her face when he had said that he wanted to work for Dynasty Corp...

But now...he didn’t know whether or not he wanted to be there anymore. How could he torture himself in such a way...being there...being in a company where her father was the boss, and creating even a higher possibility for them to meet? But...if he didn’t go to the interview...he would lose out...wouldn’t he? He would be letting go of an opportunity of a life time...and of course he didn’t want to do that...he couldn’t...he couldn’t continue to watch his mother work as a cleaning staff...suffering from all those back pains trying to pay the bills...he just simply couldn’t.

He took out the letter again and continued to read where he left off...his chance for creating a better life for his entire family relied on this one interview that will take place the following day at noon.

He tried to put a smile on his face before walking out of his room to tell his mom the good news...but the image of her stopped his smile from forming. What if the interviewer was her? What would he do? How could he go through with it? But on the other hand...it shouldn’t matter...for he had ended their relationship...

Even though their relationship was over...he still loved her...and maybe this was his opportunity to make a name for himself...to bring himself up to her status so that he could properly be with her, without being mocked by the world for loving her money and not her. The irony with that was the fact that he had no knowledge of her actual background...until he came back...and it was her that fell for him first.

~Flashback~

Ron was sitting in the library looking over his drawings one last time before having to submit it in his next class. As he sat there, he noticed that someone was watching him...and immediately turned around...

He looked at the girl who was sitting at the table directly behind him and she immediately turned pink.

Ron: is there something wrong with my drawing?

Girl: Oh no...I think they’re amazing...

Ron: Do you really think so?

She nodded enthusiastically as he got up and took a seat at the table she was sitting at, but directly across from her.

Ron: I’m Ron...

Girl: and I’m Linda...I think we have a few classes together

Ron: We do?

Linda smiled: I think so...but you always sit at the back...while I sit very close to the front

Ron: Oh...

Linda: I really like your designs...they’re quite refreshing...

Ron: I’m not so confident about them...they seem a bit...

Linda: Plain?

Ron nodded: But I don’t know what I would add to it...

Linda: If you don’t mind... (she took out her pencil)

Ron: Not at all...go right ahead...

She started adding in a few details here and there onto his drawings as he watched her...

Ron: Thanks...it looks great with that added detail there...

She smiled at him

Ron: You have a lovely smile

Linda blushed at his remark: If you’re trying to use flattery to repay me...

Ron: I think it’s working...but I still owe you one...and I’m very thankful that even though we’ve just met...you decided to help me out...anyways...I need to go now...submit this in...

Linda: Oh...ok...

Ron: Well...I guess you’ll know where to find me in class if you ever decide you’re thirsty or hungry or what not so that I could repay you

He walked away holding his drawings in his hand and a smile plastered onto his face

~end of flashback~

Ron smiled to himself: She really does have a lovely smile...

He walked out of his room and into the kitchen where his mother was busy cooking their dinner...

Ron: Mom...they want an interview with me tomorrow at noon!

Michelle: That’s great...maybe they’ll accept you since you’re not only talented but also very good looking...so I guess tonight I’ll pray that your interviewer tomorrow will be a lady...so you could use your talent and charm all at once

Ron laughed and kissed his mom on the cheek

Ron: You’re just too adorable

The Christmas Gift: Foreword

According to Karl Marx, there will always be many classes, always a division between the rich and the poor and there’s nothing we can do. With a free market, however, things have changed, no longer do we just have the rich and the poor but also the middle class. But in the mindset of the many individuals living in today’s society, the rich and the poor can’t seem to get along. There is not a chance where the poor can become the rich...but there is a chance that the rich can become the poor. The rich will always try to use their power, their money to control the lives of the poor who work for them...and the poor will always try to rebel under those certain circumstances.

This will definitely be a typical love story...one that can put a smile on your face over the break...and let you see the world from an interesting point of view.

They say love is blind...love can’t differentiate between the rich and the poor; it is an absolutely uncontrollable feeling that seems to have total control on an individual. But when reality hits...can love really be so powerful as to keep two individuals from two very different worlds together? Can their love really be above the views of society and last? Can a man really give up his pride, his dignity to be with the woman he loves? Can a woman really give up her luxurious life to be with a man who has almost nothing?

As with all my fanfics, the male lead will be Ron Ng. You may say that he’s neither a good actor, nor a very good singer or dancer...but I like having him as the lead in my fanfic...not because I secretly find him very attractive, but rather because I can imagine him in such a role. As for the female lead...I’d like to end off 2008 with a pairing that I’ve been hoping for in all TVB series for the past couple of years...and if you guessed that the female lead is Linda Chung...then you’re not only a fan of mine...but you definitely read my mind.

Ron Ng and Linda Chung...I really hope that they do have a series together next year and get paired up...then it’ll be like a wish come true.

In this fanfic, Ron will come from an average family, where his father is a cab driver, his mom works as a cleaning staff at a corporation. Even though his family is not well off, Ron was sent overseas on a scholarship to continue his studies in fashion design.

This fanfic will only have about seven chapters...and will definitely finish on New Year’s Eve. This means that regardless of how many comments I receive, I will continue to update...but this does not mean that I’m not looking forward to your comments...let’s just say...the more comments I receive the better the story will be. I don’t want this fanfic to only be for entertainment purposes...I’m planning on using this fanfic to also explore...and try something new...hopefully you’ll all realize what I’m trying to explore.
Ron: Please stop...I already gave you everything I got...I gave you my heart, my sole...and now please...just let me have this little piece of myself...give me some of my dignity and leave me alone...

Girl: I’m sorry

Ron: You shouldn’t be sorry...you didn’t do anything wrong. I should be the one saying sorry...I’m sorry for being so stupid thinking that a guy like me could be with someone like you...I’m sorry for wasting your time...

Girl: Ron...

Ron: Please...don’t say my name...every single time I hear you call me...it makes me think of all those times we shared...the times we had...when I thought you truly felt something for me...when I thought I had actually made someone like you fall for me...and now that I think about it...I should have realized...I better get going now...and you should too...you wouldn’t want to be caught dead talking to me...I get it...

Girl: It’s not what you think

Ron: I know...I thought that you would actually fall in love with me...but you’re right...it’s not what I think...cause it’s obviously impossible...a girl from a rich and powerful family...would never in a million years fall for a guy who’s dad is a cab driver, whose mother works as a cleaning lady...

Girl: But I did...

Ron laughed: Now you’re trying to sympathize with me? Just go...please...unless you want me to get on my knees in public begging you to leave...

Girl: Ron...don’t be like this...

Ron: How could I possibly act then? Do you want me to give up my dignity, fall on my knees and ask you to be with me...give up everything you have, everything you could possibly have...and live an average life, with an average guy like me? I can’t do that...because...I still love you...

She looked at him, very surprised, since this was something that she wouldn’t have expected him to say...a tear trickled down her cheek watching him speak...

Girl: Ron...I love you...just let me explain...

Ron: There’s no need for an explanation...we’re two people from two separate worlds...it’s my fault...and I think we should end here...bye

With that he turned around and walked off...exactly one year ago...their relationship had just started...and now...one year later...it came to an abrupt end...
